Please don't tell me about the best book you've ever read when in truth it might be mediocre. That movie you raved about? No thanks. Nobody thinks Ian Dearing is a good actor. Raise your standards or get some taste. And speaking of taste, kale is not something you should freak out about. If you have ever said, oh my god, the kale is so divine. You deserve a time out with a plate of bacon because bacon is good. I hate people who believe the hype. And you, I hate you too. Would it be okay if I opened this week's show with a poem? Sure. It's a poem about my Aunt Gail. Written by a friend of the family, Harry Sells. And it went like this. Hail to Gail. She eats kale. She delivers mail. Hail to Gail. It was met with such success. Was it? He wrote one about her sister, Lina. And it goes like this. Hail to Lina. She goes to China. On an ocean Lina. Hail to Lina. Is this really true? Gospel truth. And I swear it on the book of Dude Walker. Cake and cookies. Rob and Katie. It's the Rob and Katie Show. Mr. Sells was a, what you might call a piece of work. Related to Soupy? No. No. Sells. No. But. Eh. Mr. Sells. S-E-L-L-S. Was an attorney and a respected man in Washington, D.C. But he had tucked in his brain certain traits that were that of a 10-year-old. He used to take the textbooks of my mom's little brothers and sisters and write in them words like boogers and snot. So that when they would open their textbooks in school, they would see the word boogers and snot. Make them laugh. Get in trouble. No composure to keep. No. He also. He's also one time asked to remove himself from a theater lobby. I think it was the State Theater, ironically enough, in Falls Church. There used to be a fish. It was either the State or the Buckingham. One of the Arlington or Falls Church theaters. Okay. They had a big fishing, no, big fish aquarium in the lobby. Mm-hmm. And he would go over and look at it and then pretend to reach in and wiggle his hand and pretend to put something in his mouth like he was eating fish. Great gag. But the manager came over and asked him to remove himself. And he said, why? He said, because you're eating our fish. He said, but I'm not. I always feel weird about sushi restaurants that have aquariums. Well, that's like a holding tank. No, like goldfish. That's not happening. You're not putting little gold. Like that's the ones that are like the fish for decoration. Yes. I have a hard time. It's like picking out your cow. Or a lobster. Sometimes you can do that. Huh? You can pick out a lobster. I thought you said an ostrich. Am I that tired that I'm not even saying words? No, I think you said a lobster. I just don't really listen to you. Well, no one does. Oh, I wanted to tell you this while we were talking about the Wednesday night ABC lineup. By the way, my wife tonight having dinner with Merle Rogers. Hi, Merle. Hi, Carrie. Happy birthday, Carrie. Merle gets 40 bonus cake and cookie points this week for changing her status picture on Facebook to Sue Heck. Good stuff. It is great. And so my mom, you know, she schedules physicians at a hospital. She has, but she's got a real job. It's an important job. She schedules and coordinates the hours of physicians, doctors that save people's lives. Okay. And, you know, people often, I think, look at me and say, you know, Rob, you're sort of weird. Why are you like that? And it has to do with my parents and my mom particularly. I have no idea where you're going with this. My mom was at a staff meeting with real doctors, surgeons, the big hitters. And she was speaking to the surgeons and she said, make sure that it's very important that by Tuesday, I need to have all your applications. And then she dropped her chin to her chest and said, applications. She did not. She did not. Over. And what's great is even though she did it really just to entertain herself and didn't introduce anyone to the fact, she said, now I'm going to do a bit from the middle. She goes, it's very important that by Tuesday we need to have your applications. Applications. And one of the surgeons said, oh, my God, Brick, that poor kid. So that's sort of the way I am. And maybe she's the way she is because she hung out with Mr. Sells. I love that. Love that. Okay. So, okay, Rob, you're tired. Why are you so tired? Pope. Pope. Pope. Pope. Pope. But I saw on your Facebook that like your commute wound up being like really quick. Yeah, the commute was really short, which doesn't do me any good when I end up in Georgetown at 730 for a show that starts at 10. Because every day, well, first of all, media boo. Can you pack up your CPAP with you? Maybe take a nap before everyone gets there. All I know is I got a text from Carrie the other morning and she said, you must be bored out of your mind. You're liking everything on Facebook. And I was. I was at Einstein Bagels just scrolling and liking and scrolling and liking and scrolling and liking. Media boo. What did you get at the Einstein Bagels? They have the good bagels but the bad coffee. So I did not get a coffee. What I got. I'm not a fan of the coffee there. It's shockingly bad. I got an onion bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. My favorite. Unless I really. If I were to go fancy, I might get lox and tomato. Just simple. Just keeping it easy, baby. Kind of, man. So I get to work and I go over to Einstein Bagels and I plot. Because it's early. And they've got, you know, parking if you're there. So I park for one of their spots. And I get myself an OJ and a bagel. And I stay like there for two hours. Because here's the why. Boo Media and Boo Channel 4 and 5, where I get all my news from. 7 and 9, I'm sure they're just as guilty. All they've talked about for a month is, Pope's a coming. Pope's a coming. Here, coming to Pope. He's going to come here. He's a good guy. He's a come. By the way, that accent doesn't work anymore. Plan your commute. Yeah, because he's in. And it's smartly. He probably sounds more like Oscar because the Pope is not Italian anymore. He's from South America. So the Pope is going to sit down and say, love your neighbor. It's amazing. I don't think that's what he's going to say. No, okay. But anyway, they're saying that the entire city is going to be shut down. Do not come into Washington, D.C. I've got friends that two weeks ago are emailing me the itinerary of the Pope saying, oh my God, what are you going to do? And I think, well, I look it over and I see most of the action is going on in like really by the ellipse. I mean, if you go down at the Capitol and the mall area, like down there. The real touristy area. Like we would come into town on Constitution. Downtown. It's really the greatest Pope in town. So we go down there and I look and most of the stuff is going on in Constitution Avenue, right? Which is a very, very long distance away from where our studio is in Georgetown and Glover Park. However, we are spitting distance from the National Cathedral. And I think, hmm, there's a chance he could do something there. But the National Cathedral is not Catholic. No, but it is a national symbol of faith. And I didn't want to rule it out. Just in case. But here's the fact. Here's the fact is that they were going to close down Massachusetts Avenue. Now, Massachusetts Avenue is a little just about a block and a half up and almost parallel to Wisconsin where we are. And that's right where they converge right up from your studio. And I'm thinking even if there's no activity around our studio, that's enough to screw things up with overflow. And we also are walking distance from the Vatican Embassy because we're right near Embassy Row. And that's where the man is staying. And he's got a beautiful suite with a mini fridge and spectra vision. And you don't know that, Rob. I don't. I don't. But he doesn't watch a lot of TV. I know that. OK. I heard that on the news. The same news that told me, don't come into the city. It's going to be bad. So on Monday, the Pope is not even here yet. And I'm panicked because even though you think. What? Why on Monday? Because they're getting ready. They're getting ready. And they were going to start some closures on Monday night to prepare for Tuesday morning. Your show was Monday morning. So on Monday, I got up at six and six sharp and left maybe about 45 minutes early than I normally do to allow some extra time. Because I always allow like a half hour cushion for how much time it normally takes me to get to work. So I'm allowing now really almost an hour and a half extra just to get there. And Monday is normal. Monday is normal. And I cruise right in. And that's not bad. And I said, that's great. But you know what? That makes sense because the Pope, he ain't here yet. Right. So on Tuesday, I get up at. Tuesday. How dare you? We're going to have a. The real good Pope day. Today is Tuesday. You know what that means. Shut up. I got no time for him today. Ain't got no time for that. I ain't got time for that. So on Tuesday, I get up at quarter to five. That's almost what time you get up to do morning drive. Almost. It's too early. And I get up and I prep the show and I leave for the city and I get there in no time at all. No time at all. And I think, well, of course, because you know why? Schools closed down. Some Catholic schools did. Catholic schools did. Some government buildings were closed. The ones down there on the street. But I say, you know what? Of course, of course, it's going to be easy on Tuesday because he's not here yet. He's getting here at four. And so I get there
