Hey there, this is Katie with a very hateful thought of the day.

I hate being a nice person with absolutely no filter.

At least once a day I hear myself say, oh gosh, did I say that out loud?

Followed by a stumbly, mumbly string of apologetic backstepping.

Even if it is the truth, and they asked for it, there are better ways to dislike somebody's

wardrobe choice without using the words no or yikes.

And then I immediately feel so badly that the person I've offended apologizes in return.

I hate being a jerk with a big heart.

And you, I hate you too.

But I'm so sorry for it.

A brief preamble.

I'm scared to start this show.

Why?

There's a lot of negative energy in this room.

And I know I'm throwing it off.

Oh, yes.

I'm sorry I didn't remember your name. Well, we did. Ultimately, we did. Right. It just wasn't on the tip of my tongue. Well, we weren't... That was a far pull that I was not expecting. You're standing on a dirt mound. You're pitching baseballs and all this stuff. Sure. But getting it done with the old horse hide, Dan. Quite frankly, an inordinate amount of snot rockets to be blown. Do you remember that time I came over and it was like the third time it's happened where you were like, I don't think we can do this show. I never said that. You said that. Well, you mean tonight? Yes. Well, because you had things pop up. And by the way, one of the times I said- This is why even on top of the refrigerator- Debacle. Debacle. Yes. This is why you're salty. And you know what? One of the times, I won't go into details that we didn't do the show, it really wasn't my fault. It really wasn't your fault. No, it wasn't. Okay. And I came through in the clutch. Yes, you did. I know. You nailed it. But let's get to the now. Let's just, can we read through your texts? Yeah, I'm gonna do that. I think that's the best way to paint this picture appropriately. We were prepping. We were prepping to do the show and I'm a little bit behind because there was a last minute commercial curveball thrown to me for the Mike O'Mara show. And I'd like to get the Mike O'Mara business put to bed before we do this because it allows me to focus on this show. And it's not a matter of priorities. It's just a matter of, I like to compartmentalize and finish one thing before I begin another. I completely understand. So I'm a little behind. And where was a, we get the every Monday night, we get the call from the principal at Julia's school. Here's what's coming up this week. And then when you hang up on that robo call, you get the email that enumerates the same thing. It's creepy. It's like you hang up the phone and you hear ba-ding. And then you get the email that has the script of what the principal just read you. Well, yeah. And one of the things that was mentioned is that the, uh, the honor roll award ceremony is tonight, not for the first quarter because the first quarter is it done. And yet this is for the last quarter of last year. Okay. Because you know, you have to complete the last quarter and then there's the ceremony. Right. Can't run into summer break. No, no. No, no. So we were under the impression because it was told to us that tonight's award ceremony was for the four O students, the straight A students. Oh, so you're like, well, those aren't my kids. Well, you know, Julia has been there before. Right. But not this time. But not this time. And so, you know, she had Greece last semester. She had a great, she had a great quarter, but it was, I think she had like a couple of bees sprinkled in there. Okay. So I said, we got the night off. Uh, we'll get her pin at another time. What happens? You go and they read, we've discussed this actually. They read the names. And you have to do the power clap for everybody. You're not allowed to clap for each. So everyone gets a power clap. So they would say like, uh, Dan Von Herman, Katie Von Herman, Rob Spiewak. And then he'd say, there must be a mistake. So the only thing that separates it is that when my kids are called or my kid this time, and now Robert will be in the mix because he's in middle school now. Uh, I yell. Okay. Well, here's a big question. Yes. We will get to what you do. Right. Before we get to that, what it is that Rob does is so embarrassing. To Robert that Robert has been taking leave. He feigns having to go to the bathroom. Right. To leave the auditorium. Right along the lines of, uh, yes. Uh, like the, the T's going. Well, no, it's Spiewak. He usually excuses himself early in the R's and comes back late in the T's. That's a long time. It is. And remember, this is not even me doing this about him. He's just doesn't even want to be around me. Well, that's the worst part. So what'll happen is they'll say like, let me think of the names. It'd be like, uh, Steve Spence. And then, and then, uh, Billy Spencer. And then they'll say Julia Spiewak. And I'll go. Yeah. Yeah. And it's gotten to be sort of a thing. Yeah. I, and to a point where the principal now anticipates it and enjoys it. Yes. I've dealt with the guy. He's a great educator and I think he's awesome, but he does always sort of wince and then sort of look in my general direction. Well, it's hard to find you. I'm sure. He also makes a comment about the Chubbicks because the Chubbicks are usually pretty vocal and one of their three dozen kids gets called up. You know, the Chubbicks from our supper club. Because there's like 14 in a row. Right. They've got most, most of stage left. Yes. Is the Chubbicks. So I get a text from Julia tonight and it says, uh, can you reset the router? That's all the time. And I'd said, yes, I can. That's because her computer screwed up. Thank you. And then at a 543, did you know that honor roll is tonight? Bella just told me. Bella is her best friend. 543? Yeah. For a six o'clock ceremony. Oh, okay. Okay. And I replied, uh, it's just for 4-0 last quarter. She says, well, Bella is on the AB honor roll and she's there. And I said, well, I was misinformed. Let me call mom. Okay. Mom and I were under the impression that it was only for kids with 4-0 averages. And then Julia says, so is I. Apparently it's not. There's toot all running through this. And what, now a pause here. Tootie Julia. Tootie Julia is what happens is Judy Julia. Judy Julia. When you get the honor roll, you get called up stage. You get the power clap. You get a pin. That's a, a, you know, whatever their school mascot is. Right. And usually a coupon to like Chick-fil-A, something that's given by a local merchant. She's going right. She's going to go get that coupon. Isn't she? I'll buy your sandwich if you want. Waffle fries. She's okay. So then Julia replies. I reply to Julia rather. Well, I'll get your pin. I'm sorry. At least you won't have to hear me yell. That's me sort of being sort of, you know, goofy. Yeah. And she says, it's fine. I only go because you collect the pins. Now, I'd love to say that's not true. Oh my God, Rob. But it is eight semesters. She has been honor roll eight times. Now she's due her eighth pin, but there are her seven honor roll pins. You do collect the pins. Yeah. Because what you do is then you go to the spirit store and you buy the little pennant and you put all the pins on it. And because you know what? She's brilliant. And after her three years in middle school, she will have had 12 consecutive quarters of honor roll
